WA; Two police hospitalised after fiery road crash
Two Perth police officers are suffering facial burns after a light truck smashed into
their unmarked car causing an explosion.
The officers, a 27-year-old woman and 32-year-old man, had pulled over to the side
of the Mitchell Freeway in the northern suburb of Glendalough just before the crash at
9.30am (WST) today.
A police spokesman says the officers had activated their flashing blue light and were
about to remove a shredded truck tyre from the roadway between the Powis and Vincent street
exits.
The spokesman says the officers were still in the car when a light truck ran into the
back of it and the vehicle exploded.
The female officer has suffered serious burns to her face, while the male officer's
burns are superficial.
The pair have been taken to Royal Perth Hospital in stable conditions.
