Vic: Weather delays cyclone assessment team
Strong winds and stormy conditions have delayed a disaster assessment team headingto cyclone-hit remote islands in the Solomons group.
Remote Tikopia, Anuta and other smaller islands were hit by Tropical Cyclone Zoe lateon Saturday night.
Oxfam Community Aid Abroad's field representative in Honiara, VAL STANLEY, says theassessment team, which was due to leave the Solomons capital today, will leave tomorrowfollowing warnings from the meteorological office.
Ms STANLEY says poor communication systems means there's been no information on thestate of the islands and the welfare of their 4,000 residents.
She says once the assessment team has a picture of the damage Oxfam Community Aid Abroad'sMelbourne office will begin assembling emergency aid.
She predicts the islands will need supplies of water, shelter, food and clothing.
