Qld: Small protest over Sea World sharks

Environmentalists have protested outside Sea World today, calling on the theme parkto release seven large sharks that are the focus of an RSPCA health investigation.

Four Queensland Greens Party members gathered outside the Gold Coast attraction.

The sharks are being housed temporarily in a swimming pool while a $13 million newfacility is built in time to open for Christmas.

Queensland Greens spokesman DREW HUTTON says the makeshift pool is too small.

The RSPCA launched an investigation last week after claims the sharks were in poorhealth and suffering from ulcerations.

An inspection found the sharks were not in any immediate health danger but a secondopinion is being sought from an independent shark expert.

Sea World maintains the sharks are in good health and recovering from injuries sustainedafter being hooked by a commercial fisherman.
