SA: New guide on wine industry investment

ADELAIDE, April 16 AAP - The South Australian government today launched a new guide to
investment in the wine industry following a boom in vineyard plantings.

SA Premier John Olsen said that the book, called Seasons of Change and produced by the
department of Primary Industries and Resources, follows a 14 per cent increase in vineyards in
SA.

Last year 49,000 hectares were being devoted to vineyards, compared to 43,000 in 1997.

"With more money being invested in this growth industry, it is important that the best
advice is available to avoid pitfalls and maximise returns," Mr Olsen said in a statement.

"South Australia now produces half of the nation's wine and three quarters of the nation's
wine exports and the exports from South Australia this year are expected to be worth $600
million.

"The wine industry will continue to grow and provide jobs but investors and growers need
good advice."
